Collection: Yoshinobu Hara

Born in Yokosuka in 1950, Yoshinobu Hara studied the guitar with Hiromasa Okuda, Karl-Heinz Böttner and Tadashi Sasaki. He went to study in Germany following his 1973 debut recital at the Dai-ichi Seimei Hall in Tokyo. Alongside his studies he taught at Städtische Musikschule Opladen und Dormagen. He graduated “mit Auszeichnung” from Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Rheinland in 1976 and the following year was appointed lecturer in the Guitar Department of Konservatorium der Freien Hansestadt Bremen. He passed the “Konzertexamen” in 1978. In 2012, he was unexpectedly invited to give a classical concert and lecture at the Jazz Java festival held in Jakarta, Indonesia. He has taught over the years at Nihon University College of Art, Kumamoto University Faculty of Education, and Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, where he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus in 2023. To date he has given recitals in numerous halls in Tokyo and the surrounding area, venues such as Tokyo Bunka Kaikan recital hall, Suntory Hall Blue Rose, Hamarikyu-Asahi Hall, Ginza Yamaha Hall, Yokohama Minato Mirai recital hall et al. He has made a total of sixteen CDs in a wide range of styles and genres, for solo guitar, guitar duo, guitar quartet, and duets with flute and violin, all released on the ALM Records label. He has nurtured many top-class guitarists and also has a solid reputation as a conductor. [as of December 2025]
