Jo Kondo’s Long-Awaited Choral Works Collection Is Here.

Since 1970, Jo Kondo has been composing music based on his unique methodology, "Sen no Ongaku (linear music)." However, compared to other genres, his choral works have been relatively few. From 2010 onward, conductor Ryuta Nishikawa actively commissioned new works, seemingly acting as a catalyst for a transformation in Kondo’s compositional style. This CD presents six works composed between 1981 and 2017, arranged in chronological order, allowing listeners to trace the evolution of his musical language.

  • [1] Two Pieces, for mixed chorus (1981)
  • [2] Snow’s falling, for mixed chorus and piano (2001)
  • [3] Three Sappho Fragments, for mixed chorus with flute obbligato (2003)
  • [4] Motet Under the Rose, for 12 voices (2011)
  • Two Songs for Female Chorus (2013)
    • [5] 1. Random Thoughts
    • [6] 2. Vermilion Patches
  • [7] Soupir, for 11 voices (2017)
