Shimmering Between "To Hear" and "Being Heard"
A long-awaited collection of works by composer Yuji Itoh, known as the director of nothing but music and for his concert projects, including Music Documents. This album features five world-premiere recordings, centering on solo piano works and including Furikaeri I (for violin and piano), one of his earliest compositions, as well as 7 Poems by Vasile Moldovan (for soprano and piano), which sets Romanian haiku to music.
Itoh's music consistently explores how each sound is perceived within a relative context, quietly flickering between "to hear" and "being heard." This first installment in a new series brings together performers well-versed in contemporary music to illuminate his works.
Yuji Itoh:
- [1] Soloist (1996)
- [2] Furikaeri I (1977)
- [3] Itsuwarinaki-Kokoro II – Version for piano (2015/2022)
- [4] 7 Poems by Vasile Moldovan (2002)
- [5] Meletan (2014)
Satoko Inoue, piano
Takeko Nagashima, soprano
Maiko Matsuoka, violin
